Dark comedy is a delicate matter which only feels right to me when done subtly. South Korean cinema attempts on this genre in general, and "No Other Choice" in particular, are examples of success.

Theme of deadly (literally) fight for a job - with an AI-twist closer to the ending - makes for a interesting screenplay. It, however, does not tell an especially deep story nor does it surprise with too unexpected turns. You can say its finale is a bit unconventional but it is rather comedic if you think about it.

I deeply enjoyed the audiovisual part of the film. Aside from artsy visuals (calligraphy shots in the credits, what a treat), the sound was another main character for me. Gosh, I love when movies have proper sound, almost more than high definition visuals. It's a huge part of the reason I go to cinemas. Really glad I got a chance to see it in TIFF Lightbox - arguably, a theatre with the best sound systems in Toronto.

My score: 7/10. The last two volunteer tickets I was awarded for TIFF 50 served well!
